Like many innovative product ideas, inkbox began its journey on Kickstarter. Their team raised over $235,000 to bring their unique semi-permanent tattoos to market, and followed up on their success with a $1M seed round.
To continue to grow their business, inkbox needed to find ways to expand their online presence, and make their ecommerce website more than just a direct-to-consumer sales channel.
Core to this explosive startup’s plan for scale was the creation of a new community-centric online marketplace for temporary tattoos. With a mission to help customers to make good tattoo decisions, the goal for this site redesign was to build an engaged community around their “badass, but cute” brand.
As a growth company working to address rapidly scaling customer demand, inkbox needed TWG’s website design, ecommerce strategy and front-end development expertise to define and dominate their category. Within 13 weeks TWG collaborated with them to research, prototype, and design the next version of inkbox.com.
The new site engages both dedicated and curious consumers, while also featuring talented and inspiring artists. To create a sense of community on the site, we drew inspiration from platforms like Pinterest and Instagram to build touchpoints between customers and artists. Users can now create collections of inkbox art, add design details, and showcase user-generated content in a social experience.
This project repositioned inkbox’s website as a user-curated marketplace and destination for tattoo inspiration and commerce. Community features such as up-voting of designs, submission of custom tattoos, and robust artist profiles gave inkbox’s users the opportunity to contribute to the semi-permanent tattoo products and innovations on display. Following the launch of their updated experience, inkbox was perfectly positioned to release its next product innovation. inkbox Design Studio allows creators to design their own tattoos right in the browser.
